(Construction.IndustryNews247.Com, February 22, 2019 ) The world is experiencing a significant rise in demand for energy efficient power generation systems as the power consumption has increased heavily over the past decades. It is anticipated that, the power consumption will grow further with the increased usage in the developed countries as well as in few developing countries. This has led to adoption of turbo-expanders which are highly energy efficient. Energy conservation is increasingly becoming one of the significant strategic factors in many of the businesses presently.

The factors including price volatility of fossil fuels, increasing energy demand, and government initiatives for curbing carbon emissions are further fueling the need for energy efficiency. In the petrochemical and oil & gas industry, particularly, energy is under-utilized in several instances. This can be recovered and thereby improve the efficiency of the plant and attaining cost efficiency effectively. Turbo-expanders aid in energy recovery at these plants. Turbo-expanders help in energy recovery by utilizing process gas and waste heat pressure letdown. Further, innovations including thrust bearing, enhanced shaft seals, and superior control devices have improved the reliability of turbo-expanders. For instance, in 2017, Atlas Copco AB launched New AeroBlock standardized air compressor. This new product is designed to improve the efficiency while reducing overall cost and delivery time for the clients in the hydrocarbon market segments as well as industrial gases sector. In the same year, Atlas Copco introduced TurboBlock standardized centrifugal compressor, a standardized fuel gas booster to meet changing requirements and rising cost-consciousness in the power generation industry.
The surging demand for energy efficiency in different end-use verticals such as, power generation, oil and gas, and industrial sector is also influencing the turbo-expanders market players to gain significant growth opportunities. For instance, in 2018, Baker Hughes, A GE Company (BHGE) Won Turbomachinery contract at Cheniere Energy Inc.’s LNG facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. This is the fifth order for similar equipment for Cheniere Energy through Bechtel, and an important one as it is the first FID on new liquification in the U.S. This agreement expands BHGE’s global presence by bringing engineering, manufacturing and project management from Evendale, Ohio; Texas, Houston, and Florence, Italy. Further, in 2017, Cryostar successfully commissioned 13 MW turbo-generator at Alasehir, geothermal power plant by Zorlu Enerji in Turkey. The turbine was incorporated in a TAS ORC process. The hot source is the outlet of the steam turbine supplied by Toshiba. This product is in line with the expansion of Cryostar’s turbine range towards higher power outputs. Moreover, Elliott Group won contract to supply compression equipment for Hengli Petrochemical Refinery’s integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Dalian, China. This order reinforces Elliott’s strong credentials in refining and petrochemical compression.
