(Construction.IndustryNews247.Com, September 05, 2014 ) Eden Prairie, MN – The Eden Prairie electrician is often asked about common electrical issues like flickering lights or dimming lights, loose receptacles and buzzing or sizzling noise from switches. All of these are symptoms indicating a problem that can cause inefficient operation or worse, an electrical fire.
According to Eden Prairie electricians with Norske Electric, an electrical system should not have any noise, smells or wires that are hot to the touch. Lights should not flicker or go dim while in operation. Many of these symptoms indicate loose wiring connections which can be a result of expansion and contraction that occurs during temperature variations.
When electrical issues are left unchecked, they can lead to problems in light fixture boxes, switches and receptacles. Wires can short out and start burning inside the wall where it goes undetected until it is too late and extensive damage is done.
If breakers are tripping often it usually means that a circuit is overloaded, which is never good. Even worse, the Eden Prairie electrician says a breaker that never trips, especially in older homes where original wiring is still in place. The old style wiring is not meant to power today’s modern appliances. In some cases, the breaker is too large or the home lacks adequate safeguards. Breakers trip to prevent fires and increase safety. When they fail to trip, then something could burn out cause an electrical fire.
The local electrician with Norske Electric (http://www.electricianedenprairie.com) recommends only having a licensed and qualified electrical contractor perform repairs but he does offer some troubleshooting tips for homeowners:
Home has only half power: When only have of the lights or plugs are working then it could be caused by a damaged ground wire or blown transformer, which is the power company’s responsibility to fix at no charge to the customer.
Kitchen or Bathroom outlets not working: Could be the GFCI plug has been tripped and needs to be reset. These should be tested periodically to be sure they are functioning properly. Press the test button to turn off and the reset button to resume function.
Things in a specific location not working: Could be a tripped breaker which can happen from time to time. Reset the breaker, then resume activity. If the problem persists then an electrical inspection should be scheduled right away.
